Ibrahim Sikiru, a 27-year-old man, was arrested on March 30, 2022, by agents of the Ogun State Police Command for the murder of his biological father.
According to a statement released by the command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was apprehended after a report was filed at Onipanu divisional headquarters by one Abiodun Sunday, a deceased’s neighbor.
Oyeyemi stated that the dead, Mumuni Ibrahim, a security guard, arrived home and encountered his son, who was still sleeping, and when he questioned him about why he was still sleeping at that hour, the suspect became enraged and pulled out a cutlass, which he used to stab the victim five times.
Following the report, CSP Bamidele Job, DPO Onipanu division, swiftly organized his men and hurried to the spot, where the culprit was apprehended and the victim was brought to General Hospital for treatment.
“The suspect, who is strongly suspected to be a cultist has no reasonable explanation for his action when interrogated”, Oyeyemi said.
“On the 31st of March 2022, the victim gave up the ghost while receiving treatment at General Hospital, and the family insisted on burying him according to the dictate of his religion”.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
