Pastor arrested for organizing assault on his wife which led to the death of their eight-month-old baby

Pastor Isaac Akinbola, 50, and two ladies, Esther Olowolayemo, 29, and Oluwakemi Oshinbajo, 30, were detained by personnel from the Ogun state police command for abusing the pastor’s wife, which resulted in the death of an eight-month-old infant named Obadiah Akinbola.

The suspects were arrested on March 27 after the pastor’s wife, Dasola Akinbola, reported to the Awa Ijebu divisional headquarters that she had been having a disagreement with her pastor husband for some time now over his illicit affair with some female members of the church, and that the said husband came to her house in the Ipinle area of Mamu ijebu with two women whom she suspected of having an illicit affair with her husband.

Dasola told the police that their eight-month-old baby, Obadiah Akinbola, fell down while the two women were beating her. The husband kept telling the two women to beat her thoroughly.

Following the report, CSP Adewalehinmi Joshua, DPO Awa Ijebu division, ordered the arrest of the three suspects, while the woman and her baby were transported to Mamu Ijebu health facility for medical treatment.

The woman and the infant were rushed to the Blessed Hospital Oru Ijebu, where it was determined that the baby had suffered an inside damage after falling from his mother’s hands during the altercation. On the 28th of March 2022, the child passed away while receiving treatment for an internal injury.

The remains of the child has been deposited at the general hospital Ijebu Igbo mortuary for autopsy.

Confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the state commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation with the view of arraigning them in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
