On December 25, 2021, three teenage guys were charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly gang-raping a 15-year-old girl at a motel in Akowonjo, a suburb of the state.
Pelumi Osho, 17, Oluwafemi Shobayo, 17, and Victor Elijah, 17, all of whom live in Akowonjo, Lagos State, are charged with conspiracy and rape. They have pleaded not guilty to both counts.
ASP. Victor Eruada, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendants perpetrated the crimes with the help of others who are still on the loose. The defendants allegedly brought the woman to the hotel and gang-raped her without her consent, according to the prosecution.
“The case was reported to the police and the defendants were arrested,” the prosecutor said
According to the prosecutor, the offenses contravene Sections 411 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, granted all the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Owolabi said the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State government.
The matter was then adjourned until Feb. 15, for mention.
