Bayern Munich star, Alphonso Davies diagnosed with inflammation of the heart after suffering Covid

After a cardiac scare, Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has been forced to cease training.

After testing positive for Covid-19 on December 17, the 21-year-old has not played for the German giants since.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that the Canadian international suffers from moderate myocarditis, a kind of heart inflammation.

After recovering from the infection, Davies went to the club’s headquarters for customary medical exams.

As his condition is assessed, the footballer is anticipated to miss ‘weeks’ of training.

“During our follow-up examination that we do with every player who has taken Covid-19, we noticed signs of mild myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle,” Nagelsmann remarked on Thursday, January 13.

He has stopped training for now, so he won’t be available to us for the next weeks.

“This myocarditis isn’t too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of an inflammation.

“Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time.”
