Mrs Comfort Jiya, the former principal of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Sabon Wuse, and Maryam Babangida Girls’ Science College, Minna, was set on fire by her biological son, Steven Jiya.

On Monday, December 20, Comfort was reportedly in her kitchen at her home in the Darusalam Area of Minna when her son, who is said to be a drug addict, arrived from Suleja and poured fuel on her before lighting her on.

The former principal died around 3 p.m. on Friday, December 24, at Minna General Hospital, where she was being treated for burn injuries, according to the Daily Trust.

Steven had made repeated efforts to harm his mother, but he was successful when he poured petrol on her. After being arraigned before the Minna high court by prosecutors from the GRA Police division, he was remanded in detention.
