Following a meeting between the two parties last Thursday, the Academic Staff Union of Colleges (ASUU) stated it has not heard from the Federal Government, raising the possibility of another big walkout throughout Nigerian universities.
According to the union, one week has passed since the FG was issued a three-week ultimatum.
The ASUU had given the FG a deadline of 2020 to fulfill the pledges promised to them.
Following the ultimatum, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, invited the ASUU President, Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance; and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, among others.
At the end of the last week meeting, the government promised to pay ASUU this week.
The National President of the Union, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has now told The PUNCH that the FG had not commenced payment and had not reached out after the meeting.
He said, “Since that meeting, we have not heard from the Federal Government. But our ultimatum still stands. We gave the government three weeks and one week has passed; they are left with two weeks.”
