Fake soldier arrested in Niger State while trying to secure release of his friend in police custody

The Niger State Police Command has arrested Emmanuel Dominic, 24, of the Tungan area of Minna, for impersonating a soldier.

In a statement released on Wednesday, November 17, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was apprehended by operatives from the Maitumbi Division.

The suspect, dressed in Nigerian Army camouflage, went to the Police Division on October 27 and exhibited himself as a Nigerian Army soldier with service number 05313 attached to TRADOC, Minna in order to gain the release of his friend who was being held in police custody, according to the PPRO.

“During interrogation, the suspect was discovered to be a fake soldier and subsequently arrested and later confessed that he had been a barrack boy of Army barrack Minna. He also claimed that the uniform in his possession belongs to his late father whom he said was a soldier,” Abiodun stated. 

Exhibits recovered from the suspect during investigation includes; one wooden carved gun, two axe, one jackknife, two kit bags, two OG green trousers, one army camouflage vest, shirt, boot, face cap, and a walking stick.

The suspect is equally suspected to have been robbing victims in Minna and its environs with the wooden carved gun, jackknife and the axe. 

The case is under investigation while the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution immediately after investigation is concluded, DSP Abiodun added.
