A video showing Nigerian military storming a nursing school in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State has gone viral.
Military soldiers are said to have attacked the institution, Our Lady of Lourdes Nursing School in Okija, in search of unidentified gunmen who engaged the military in a gunfight.
Unknown gunmen stormed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) venue in the state’s Ihiala LGA on Tuesday.
The attackers, who arrived on three motorbikes and three trucks to storm Odoata Primary School, were eventually defeated by security forces.
The attempt was thwarted by a joint squad of police officers and soldiers.
According to a source, the gunmen were unable to overcome the troops’ and police officers’ superior firepower and fled to the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, which was right across the street from the campaign grounds.
Passers-by were seen raising their hands to signify they had no weapon in the footage, which has now gone viral. At one point in the footage, students in white uniforms can be seen rushing, just before a gunshot is fired.
Residents in the region have been asked to assist look out for people with gunshot wounds and report them to the Anambra State Police Command.
It has also asked hospitals and other health facilities in both Ihiala Local Government Area and neighbouring communities in Imo State to report
