Kaduna trader flogged for denying paternity of his sixth son

On Wednesday, October 13, a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, sentenced Abdulhamid Yakubu of Bakin Dogo to 80 strokes of the cane for denying the paternity of his sixth child.

Yakubu had taken his 21-year-old wife, Maryam Muhammad, to court in September, arguing that she was an adulterous and that he was not to blame for her pregnancy.

Yakubu was given the choice of swearing an oath or providing confirmation of the child’s paternity or affirmation that the pregnancy was not his, but he declined.

Murtala Nasir, the judge, confirmed that the infant was Yakubu’s and ordered him to assume responsibility for all of his children.
