Burna Boy, a popular Nigerian musician, has stated that hypocrisy is the reason why marijuana has yet to be legalized in the country.
Marijuana (commonly known as cannabis) is still illegal in Nigeria, but that hasn’t prevented some Nigerians from using it.
Burna Boy said in an interview with Home Grown Radio in Los Angeles that everyone in Nigeria smokes pot but doesn’t want to be seen with it.
Another reason for weed’s non-legalization in Nigeria, according to the Grammy Award-winning artist, is that marijuana is misunderstood.
Legalizing marijuana, he claims, is a taboo subject that no one wants to discuss, despite the fact that many people use it.
“It’s not a zero-tolerance policy,” Burna replied when asked about legalizing marijuana in Nigeria. It’s almost as though everyone does it, but no one wants to be the one who is seen doing it. There’s a lot of hypocrisy out there.
“They attempt to make it appear like using pot will make you insane in Nigeria. Everyone uses it; it’s just a topic no one wants to discuss,” Burna Boy explained.
“No one wants to discuss it; everyone is cool with it.” Nobody wants to make a career out of advocating for marijuana legalization,” he continued.
Burna Boy stated that he enjoys visiting Los Angeles since pot is legal in the state and the city has the best.
