Agnes Jebet Tirop, Kenya’s two-time World Championship bronze medalist, has died.
On Wednesday, October 13, the 25-year-old long-distance runner, who represented Kenya at the Tokyo Olympics, was discovered dead in her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Barnaba Korir, the Chairperson of Athletics Kenya in the Nairobi Region, verified the unfortunate news, saying she had stab wounds in the belly.
Her ex-lover is suspected of being behind the murder.
Tirop finished fourth in the 5,000m women’s finals at the Tokyo Olympic Games, clocking 14:39.62.
Tirop won bronze in the 5,000m at the 2019 World Championships. She also took first place in the 2015 senior Cross Country Championships.
