On Tuesday, gunmen stormed the Divisional Police Station in Kolo, Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area, murdering one of the officers on duty.
Other officers escaped with bullet wounds, according to SaharaReporters.
After shooting the police officer, the gunmen looted the entire station and made off with some weaponry.
Six shooters, according to residents, opened fire on a police squad examining vehicles in front of the station.
The dead was alleged to have been brought to the hospital and treated for his injuries, but he died later.
Asinim Butswat, a spokesman for the state police command, verified the occurrence.
He stated that the incident has been the subject of a tactical investigation by the police.
“Yes, it happened at the Divisional Police Station in Kolo, Ogbia,” Butswat told reporters. “A police inspector was killed, not a sergeant.”
