Sunday Ukeme, a 32-year-old married man, was detained by officers from the Akodo Police Division in Lagos for allegedly defiling a neighbor’s daughter (name withheld).
According to reports, the incident occurred around 10.30 p.m. on September 20 in Idaso town, Ibeju Lekki, after the suspect’s wife left for vigil in one of the nearby churches. When the victim’s mother (victim’s mother) went out of town for three weeks, she left her in the custody of the suspect’s wife, Mary Sunday.
When the victim’s mother returned from the travel, she told her that she had been defiled by the suspect, according to the victim’s mother, who reported the case to the police station.
CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the event to reporters, saying that detectives quickly detained the suspect after a report was filed at the Police Station on October 4.
“The suspect confessed to the crime under interrogation.” He, on the other hand, appealed for mercy, blaming his humiliating, immoral, and criminal deed on his intoxication.
“The victim was transferred to the hospital for medical treatment,” Ajisebutu added.
The case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for diligent investigation and prosecution on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu.
