Ayo Adenupebi, a 20-year-old male, was detained by police operatives from the Akodo Police Division in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State, for suspected sexual assault on a one-year-old girl.
This is according to a statement signed by CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Lagos Police Command Spokesperson.
According to Ajisebutu, the suspect lives in Ise, Akodo.
“The victim lives on the same street as the suspect, and the incident was reported after the victim’s older sister observed blood spots on her (victim’s) thigh around 7 p.m. on Friday,” according to the police report.
“When questioned, the victim claimed that the suspect sexually attacked her and warned her not to notify anyone, including her parents,” according to the report.
“Detectives nabbed the culprit shortly after the victim’s father filed a report at the Akodo Police Division.
“During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime but appealed for mercy.”
Mr Hakeem Odumosu, the Commissioner of Police, has directed that the suspect be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit for further investigation and prosecution, according to Ajisebutu.
