The footballer from Brighton and Hove Albion, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, denies the allegations.
After being taken out of a nightclub on the south coast, a Premier League footballer was detained on suspicion of sexual assault.
After claims of a sexual assault at the venue in Brighton in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Brighton and Hove Albion player, in his twenties, was arrested alongside a man in his forties.
The footballer, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was handcuffed and carried away from The Arch nightclub on Brighton’s beachfront by police officers. He was taken into custody and questioned at a local police station, but he is anticipated to be released this evening.
The allegation is understood to concern the actions of the player and his co-accused in a public area of the venue.
