A South African woman has been arrested for reportedly paying hitmen to assassinate her husband and her mother-in-law, who was 81 years old.
In Elliotdale, Eastern Cape, a woman and five others have been detained in connection with the murders of her husband and mother-in-law.
On Monday, September 13, Nophelo Gquthani, 36, and her accomplices appeared in the Elliotdale Magistrate Court.
The 46-year-old male and his mother (81) were tragically shot at their home in Mkatazo Village Kwanditya, Elliotdale, according to police spokesperson Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, who confirmed the event in a statement on Saturday, September 11.
“Police did not rest until they had thoroughly investigated the case and were able to apprehend the suspects. The 36-year-old wife allegedly hired hitmen to kill her husband and mother-in-law, according to the investigation. Three unauthorized guns (pistols) were also discovered, together with three magazines and 34 rounds of live ammo.”
“The suspects, who range in age from 23 to 55, have been charged appropriately.” The statement reads.
Amathole Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu commended the investigating officers for not leaving no stones unturned in solving the case. He appreciated the sterling job done by police in confiscating these unlicensed firearms.
