Following the discovery of malware that can infect devices without consumers clicking on anything, Apple has issued an urgent software update.
Citizen Lab, an internet security watchdog, reported Monday that it has discovered a hole attributed to Israel’s NSO Group that allows an attacker to hack into a device while the user is unaware of it.
Researchers spotted the spyware on the phone of a Saudi activist on September 7 and promptly contacted Apple.
The phone was infected with spyware in February, according to Citizen Lab, and it’s unclear how many other users were affected.
According to researcher Bill Marczak, there is a high level of confidence in Israeli spying.
