Ya’u Yakubu, a police inspector, is said to have shot and killed his colleague, Basharu Alhassan, over an alleged romance with his wife.
Following a disagreement, Mr Yakubu shot his rifle at Mr Alhassan in the Warawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday night.
His colleagues took the body to the Wudil General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Abdullahi Kiyawa, a spokesman for the state police command, confirmed the encounter but denied the charge of adultery, claiming that the two had a disagreement over a job relocation.
Mr Yakubu was upset, according to the police spokesperson, because late Alhassan mocked him over a move out of Warawa Area to a remote place.
Mr Kiyawa went on to say that the case had been transferred to the command headquarters for further investigation by the Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko.
