On August 31, 2021, the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Abia State Police Command arrested Nwosu Chibuike, an 18-year-old resident of Ajata Olokoro, for laying siege with the aim to loot passersby at the Uchenna road intersection in Umuahia and then attacking several students at Abia State University, Uturu.
CP Janet Agbede, the state’s Commissioner of Police, said the suspect was apprehended with one locally produced pistol and three live cartridges on Thursday in Umuahia.
“His confession led to the arrest of Ubani Hillary’m’, a 27-year-old woman from Ikputu Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North who now lives in Amuzukwu, Umuahia South LGA.
“Mrs. Ego Iniocent, of Amizi Qlokoro Umuahia South, was detained as a live ammunition dealer and thirteen live cartridges were recovered, while Edith Okiyi, also of Amizi Olokoro, was seized in possession of two single barrel long rifles that she could not account for.
“Nwosu Chibuike and Ubani Hilary are members of a gang of lethal armed robbers/cultists who were planning to attack some students at Abia State University, Uturu, according to the investigation. Mrs. Ego Innocent and Edith 0ky were also proven to be arms and ammo dealers to the deadly gang “she stated:
“I would like to use this means to urge Parents, Guardians, and Organized Groups to caution their children, wards, and members not to engage in any criminal conduct as the Police and other security services would not compromise their professional calls,” she added.
