Evacuees who fled Ida before the hurricane wreaked havoc on southern Louisiana are being urged not to return home just yet, as the US Gulf Coast struggles to recover from one of the region’s most devastating storms ever.
More than a million homes and businesses were still without power three days after the Category 4 hurricane hit.
Entergy Corp (ETR.N) stated that power was restored to some customers in the eastern area of New Orleans on Wednesday morning.
However, the utility cautioned that in some regions where transmission towers had collapsed into heaps of metal, it might take weeks to restore power.
The storm killed at least four people and left many thousands more in misery.
Countless homes were destroyed and towns were flooded, evoking memories of Hurricane Katrina, which killed some 1,800 and nearly destroyed New Orleans 16 years ago.
