Iliyasu Suleiman, a 40-year-old man from Adamawa State, has killed another man for taking over a job he was fired from.
Iliyasu had been fired from his job as a security guard because he was suspected of stealing company property, and the deceased was hired to fill the vacancy.
According to a local news publication on Monday evening, Iliyasu, who is from Ngurore ward in Yola South Local Government Area and is currently under investigation at the Adamawa State Police Command in Yola, has confessed to killing the new security guard.
Iliyasu is said to have beaten the security guard until he killed in a service provider’s office in Kwanan Waya, Yola South LGA.
According to reports, the suspect began working for the company in 2020 and was fired in July 2021 owing to theft allegations.
He admitted to stealing the firm’s iron rods and selling them for N5000 to a scavenger, prompting the company to report him to the police, who investigated the situation and recovered the iron rods.
He claimed that despite threats from the company’s management to fire him, he was permitted to stay after pleading, and he worked for the company for a year.
However, he stated that later on, other employees were stealing from the company, and management, insisting that he be held accountable, finally fired him in July 2021.
The company hired another security guard, and not long after, he (Iliyasu) went to the company late at night, armed with a stick, and struck the new security guard while he slept.
He was later pursued by the cops, who apprehended him for the crime.
DSP Suleiman Nguroje, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said that the suspect is now being questioned by agents from the command.
