On Saturday, a newborn baby boy was discovered at a waste dump in the Okaka neighborhood of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
When several residents stepped out to discard their trash in the morning, they discovered the baby wrapped in African fabric and sobbing hysterically.
The baby was believed to have been placed there in the middle of the night by locals.
Shortly after being discovered, the little baby stopped wailing, and he was pronounced dead. It rained all night in the neighborhood where the abandoned baby was discovered.
Mr. Asinim Butswat, a spokesman for the State Police Command, verified the event, stating the area’s Divisional Police Officer had visited the scene and contacted the sanitation authority to have the baby’s body evacuated.
