Imoleayo Adekoya, 33, was detained by men from the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 27-year-old lady.
Adekoya allegedly dragged the victim to a remote location and raped her after accusing her of not greeting him.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Oyeyemi, the culprit was apprehended on Saturday after the victim filed a report at the Sakora divisional police headquarters in Sagamu.
He said the lady stated that she was harassed by the suspect while she was leaving the Ipoji area of Sagamu, accusing her of not welcoming him.
“She further added that she apologised to him not to be annoyed, that it was because she didn’t know him,” Oyeyemi continued.
“However, the man pounced on her and began abusing her, dragging her to the back of his house, where she forcibly tore her clothes and had sex with her despite her screams and struggles.
“Following the report, CSP Rowland Dahunsi, DPO Sakora division, dispatched his detectives to accompany the victim, who was accompanied to the station by her father, to the spot, where the suspect, who was identified by the victim, was soon apprehended with the help of the witnesses.
“During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime but claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment and a medical examination.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution, according to the PPRO.
