Youths in areas being assaulted by armed herders have been instructed to ‘defend’ themselves, according to the Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN).
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 29, YOWICAN’s national chairman, Belusochukwu Enwere, warned that acts like the recent tragedy in Plateau State must cease immediately, as people must now defend themselves against such atrocities.
“I completely condemn the brutal killings of over 35 Plateau inhabitants, mostly Christians, on August 25 in a nocturnal attack in which houses, churches, and a primary school in Kunga of Zangam were set on fire,” he added. This is unacceptable to all Nigerians, regardless of tribe, religion, or race.
“…Evidently, Nigeria is sliding into anarchy where religion, ethnic and terrorism are spreading like wildfire.
“The scars of all these killings would never be erased in our minds. Today it’s Plateau, another is Kaduna, Benue etc. All these killings must stop.
“Christian youths across the country and indeed Nigerians should defend themselves against these killers before we are all consumed. This is unacceptable and condemnable.”
