A local passenger boat traveling from Port Harcourt to Bonny in Rivers State was purportedly shot at by an unidentified chopper.
There are concerns that there will be casualties, as some of the passengers have been critically injured and transported to the hospital.
According to Punch, newsmen were told that there were casualties at the Bonny-Nembe waterside in Port Harcourt, where the boat took off from.
While expressing his disbelief at the incident, he explained that the boat was transporting passengers and food.
“A chopper or, as I’ll call it, a flying helicopter, just came behind the local boat that just departed here to Bonny, within the Treasure Island region, and started shooting at the wooden boat.”
“According to the information we received from a boat driver, the boat was carrying passengers. Foodstuffs including garri, rice, and other goods were also on board.
“Everyone knows that route is used to deliver food to Bonny. “On the ferry, some people died,” he claimed. When called, Nnamdi Omoni, a spokesman for the state Police Command, claimed he hadn’t received the information.
