Kano LGA Bans Men and Women From Meeting in Public Places at Night

According to Premium Times, Dahiru Muhammad, the council chairman, unveiled the new rule on Wednesday during a security committee meeting attended by citizens and traditional leaders, according to Habibu Faragai, the LGA information officer.

The committee had voiced concerns about the high number of immoral actions among persons of different genders in the LGA, including divorcees, Muhammad said, adding that this worry prompted the council to pass the new ordinance.

He explained that the ordinance was enacted to clear the council area of immoral behaviors that occurred during late-night chats between men and women.

According to the council president, lovers can now only meet during the day to discuss issues, and he has asked the state’s Hisbah board and other local security officials to enforce compliance and arrest violators.

Mannir Tafida-Abubakar, the district head of Rano LGA, also urged village leaders, ward heads, and imams across the council area to follow the new rule.

According to Tafida-Abubakar, the area is experiencing three key challenges verging on immorality, which have become a source of concern for people.

“Parents are ecstatic with the decision and enthusiastically support it. If parents refuse to participate and similar incidents occur again, the people who are harmed will suffer the repercussions of their carelessness,” he stated.

In 2019, the state government made it illegal for people of different genders to ride in the same commercial tricycle.

However, the state’s governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has put the bill on hold while he assesses its feasibility.
