Beyonce’s mother is seeking vengeance on individuals who have twisted her daughter’s Tiffany campaign into a blood diamond issue.
Tina Knowles slammed all the “socially conscious activist[s]” who chastised Beyoncé for wearing the famous 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond… which came from a colonial mine in Kimberley, South Africa, on Instagram.
If you haven’t heard, Beyonce is the fourth woman — and the first Black woman — to wear the legendary diamond as part of Tiffany & Co.’s new “About Love” campaign, which also features her husband, Jay-Z.
Beyonce didn’t seem to realize the jewel was a blood diamond, which raises the question of whether she was duped into wearing it in the ad by Tiffany & Co. According to rumors, Beyonce is enraged that she wasn’t given a heads-up.
Many people don’t seem to mind, and have chastised her for flaunting it… but Mama Tina isn’t having it.
Knowles responded to these critics on Instagram, asking how many of them own diamonds, and if they do… “Did you go to see if you could find out where the diamond originated from?”
Her point is that most people who have an engagement ring or own diamonds do not explore their origin, thus all of her daughter’s “righteous” trashing is hypocritical.
It’s a valid point, but it’s unlikely to silence everyone on Twitter.
Several Twitter users have rushed to Beyonce’s defense, pointing out that when Lady Gaga wore the Tiffany Diamond at the Oscars in 2019, there was no such reaction.
