When criminals stormed the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Tuesday, personnel monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) were apparently asleep.
Earlier report stated that two officers were murdered and one was kidnapped during the incident.
According to sources who spoke with reporters, the bandits entered through a section of the facility that was not fenced off.
“It was in the middle of the night, and the staff who were supposed to be monitoring the CCTV had drifted off,” another insider added.
“They had the option of putting everyone on high alert and averting the attack.”
According to reports, the academy will hold a court martial for several soldiers who failed to safeguard the area.
In a statement, the academy’s spokesperson, Bashir Muhd Jajira, also detailed how the institution’s security architecture was infiltrated.
“Unknown gunmen gained entrance to the Academy’s residential section in Afaka early this morning, compromising the security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy. We lost two workers and one was kidnapped during the sad incident,” he stated.
“The Academy has now begun pursuing the unknown gunmen within the general region in coordination with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state with the goal of tracking them down and rescuing the abducted people.
“In the Academy, the NDA community and Cadets are safe. We guarantee the public that the mysterious shooters will be captured quickly, and the kidnapped personnel will be rescued.”
