Protesters have taken to the streets of Ibadan, Oyo State, to seek the release of Sunday Igboho, who was allegedly detained in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho and his wife, a German citizen, were apprehended by the Federal Government of Nigeria through INTERPOL on Monday night, July 19, at an airport in neighboring Benin Republic while attempting to board a flight to Germany.
Banji Akintoye, the leader of Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, confirmed Igboho’s detention and claimed he and other Yoruba leaders are “currently working to provide help” to avoid his extradition from Benin Republic.
Photos from the protest on Wednesday, showed a crowd building up close to Igboho’s Soka residence. They carried placards and chanted freedom songs.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards read; ”Free Igboho Now Now’‘ ”Free Oloye Sunday Igboho Now”

He said, “Please we beg all agitators to converge at Chief Sunday Igboho’s house for a peaceful demonstration to show the world the kind of person he is as one of the conditions given for his release.null
