Jumoke Oyeleke, the salesgirl murdered by a stray bullet during the Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos on July 3, died of a missile injury.
The results of an autopsy performed on the 25-year-body old’s on Monday indicated this.
The story refuted Muyiwa Adejobi, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, who said Jumoke had been abandoned after being stabbed.
Dr. S.S. Soyomi of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, signed the autopsy report acquired by PUNCH Metro.
Her death was linked to “haemopericardium, disturbance of the heart and lungs, and missile injuries to the chest,” according to the report.
On July 3, 2021, Yoruba Nation activists assembled in Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, surrounded by armed police and military.
Jumoke was slain as security officers chased agitators inside her boss’s shop in a complex near the gathering grounds, where she was selling soft drinks.
When the police opened fire on the protesters, her family and witnesses stated she was injured.
In response to the autopsy results, Taiwo Olawale, a lawyer with Femi Falana Chambers, requested the police to name the officer who shot the victim.
He also urged the State Government to compensate the family.
