Ifeanyi Henry, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), is being held at the Aba Central Police Station, causing’serious tension’ on Okwu na Uka Street and St Michaels Road in Aba.
On Saturday night, July 17, the police officer allegedly pulled out his gun and began shooting indiscriminately and attacking people, including women, children, and store owners, without provocation.
Henry allegedly assaulted passers-by and intimidated fellow police officers with his weapon. He was taken into custody after attempting to shoot a business owner. He also caused another panic by attempting to resume his shooting spree by seizing an AK-47 gun from one of the officers.’
His colleagues struck his hand repeatedly before he left the gun and got bundled into the police station.
Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed that Henry was in police custody.
“The Nigerian Police Force is a disciplined organisation, and there are laid down procedures in handling the issue of any erring officer irrespective of his rank and cadre.
“I condemn the actions of the police officer and I have to tell you that he is in custody right now and he will be treated departmentally.”
