A young man and his father have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, for alleged Internet fraud.
Malik Giles Bakare and his father, Isa Bola Bakare, are suspected of conspiring, computer-related fraud, gaining by false pretenses, and keeping proceeds of illicit operations.
On May 31, 2021, officers from the Nigeria Police Force CID, Alagbon, Lagos, apprehended Malik Giles Bakare and handed him over to the Commission.
During the investigation, his father, Isa Bola Bakare, appeared before the Commission, claiming ownership of a Range Rover car worth N46 million that was recovered from his son. The father, on the other hand, was detained after failing to provide a satisfactory account of how he was able to obtain the automobile.
Wilson Uwujaren, an EFCC spokesman, said Malik worked as a middleman between fraudsters in a statement released on Wednesday, June 9.
The stament explains: “He connects internet criminals throughout the globe with pickers, and obtains a proportion on every successful transaction.”
The vehicle, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, an iPhone 8, and “other incriminating materials” were were confiscated from the suspects.
