The five alleged criminals had blocked the road, preventing motorists, until the Nigerian Police Anti-Crime Patrol squad rushed in and engaged them in a heated gun battle. Two of the criminals were killed as three others escaped into the bush with gunshot injuries.
The police squad is on the lookout for the fugitive alleged kidnappers, probing the surrounding wild areas. Two wooden AK47s, 25 varied GSM cellphones, one First Bank ATM card bearing Mohammed Jamiu, and an undisclosed sum of money are among the goods confiscated from the culprits by the police.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has lauded the security personnel for their bravery and quick action in defending the state against criminal groups. Through his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammed Onogwu, the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, urged Nigerians to go about their daily routines, noting that the state is battle-ready to deal with criminal elements and other associated antics.
“Criminal elements have no place in Kogi State; the state exists primarily for law-abiding citizens. Whoever believes he can commit a crime will be dealt with harshly. Our valiant security personnel are on the ground, ensuring the safety of people and property, and the government will continue to give the necessary leadership.”
