The Enugu state police command has begun an investigation into the death of a 32-year-old woman identified as Ifeoma Nwachukwu, and her two-year-old daughter named Chimuanya Nwachukwu.
In a statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Ndukwe Daniel revealed that the late Ifeoma and her daughter went to bed on September 3 and by the next day, September 4, failed to wake up.
The spokesperson said upon receiving the report, operatives of the Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Henry Chijioke Imo, visited the scene of the incident. He said a preliminary investigation showed that the deceased and her husband, one Joshua Nwachukwu, four children, and their two male visitors all slept in the same room after taking Spaghetti for dinner with a Generator said to be switched on in their sitting room.
Ndukwe added that the husband of the deceased, alongside three others, has been arrested alongside one Nnamani Nkiruka (female) and the Mortician, Victor Onoh (male) in connection with the case, which has been transferred to the State CID for a discreet investigation to unravel the cause(s) of their death.
Furthermore, the spokesperson revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman, has directed a full-scale investigation into the matter while appealing residents of the State to promptly report criminal cases to the Police rather than resorting to self-help in matters requiring thorough Police investigation.
He said reports can be made to the command through its emergency hotlines on 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172.
