16-year-old girl breaks record as Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant

Osasere Okundaye, a 16-year-old Nigerian, has made history by becoming the country’s youngest chartered accountant, breaking the previous national record and receiving great accolades from government officials and the general public.

Okundaye reached the milestone by successfully passing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a professional qualification widely regarded as one of the most difficult in the country.

Her accomplishment comes at a time when many youngsters are still attending secondary school.

The feat has sparked national interest, with Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande characterising her accomplishment as proof of what dedicated young Nigerians can achieve when given the necessary assistance and opportunities.

In a statement, Olawande congratulated the teenager, saying, “I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age. This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”

The minister also praised her determination, adding, “Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth. Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence.”

He also praised her parents, professors, and mentors, stating that their encouragement and sacrifices were important in her accomplishment.

Olawande also underlined the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to funding projects that enable young Nigerians reach their full potential.

Okundaye’s feat beats the previous record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17 after passing the arduous ICAN professional exams.

Her accomplishment has garnered enthusiasm throughout Nigeria, with many hailing it as an inspirational example of academic prowess and persistence.

Supporters believe her accomplishment will inspire more young people to obtain professional certifications early and strive for excellence, regardless of age.
